To assemble PCBs successfully, you must recognize the different types of SMT components. This guide classifies them by function, shape, and placement requirements. It will help you select the right feeders and nozzles.
Shape: rectangular, black body with numbers.
Sizes: 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206 (and 0201 for advanced).
Polarity: none.
MLCC (ceramic) – brown/tan, no marking.
Tantalum – yellow/black, polarity marked with stripe.
Aluminum electrolytic – cylindrical, polarity marked.
Small chip inductors (similar to resistors) or larger shielded types.
SMD diodes – glass or black body with cathode band.
LEDs – emit light, remember polarity (triangle / notch).
Transistors (SOT‑23, SOT‑223) – three leads, one marked side.
SOIC – gull‑wing leads on two sides.
QFP – leads on all four sides (fine pitch).
QFN – pads underneath (no leads visible).
BGA – balls underneath (requires X‑ray inspection).
USB, HDMI, card slots – odd‑shape, often require manual placement or special nozzle.
Switches, potentiometers – tall components.
We supply nozzles for each component type, electric feeders for tape packages, and tray supports for ICs. Our desktop pick‑and‑place machines handle all common SMT components from 0402 to 30mm ICs.
Master every component type with the right tools.
